Frank Wallis Galton 1867 - 1952

Frank Wallis was educated at Medburn Street Board School and the Working Mens' College in Great Ormond Street. He was apprenticed to a silversmith and engraver but soon left to enter journalism and politics. From 1892 to 1898 Galton was private secretary to social reformers Sidney (1859 - 1947) and Beatrice Webb (1858 - 1943). He was also secretary of the London Reform Union 1899 - 1918 and secretary of the London Liberal Association, 1903 - 1905. During the war he was assistant secretary to the Central Association of Volunteer Regiments.

He was editor of The Weekly Organ The Volunteer Gazette and editor of the Municipal Journal 1918 - 1920.

His publications include:

• Select documents illustrating the history of trade unionism 1: the Tailoring Trade (1896)
• Workers on their Industries (1896)

Two volumes.
