Administrative / Biographical History

William Linton Andrews was born in Hull in 1886 and educated at Hull Grammar School and Christ's Hospital. He worked on a number of (mostly provincial) newspapers, and was editor of the Leeds Mercury from 1923 until it amalgamated with the Yorkshire Post in 1939, when he succeeded Arthur Mann as editor of the Yorkshire Post, retiring in 1960. He was a member of the Press Council and was knighted in 1954
