Administrative / Biographical History

Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox was born on 27 December 1845. He was the eldest son of the Secretary of State for Scotland, 1885-1886, Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, 1st Duke of Gordon (1818-1903), upon whose death he succeeded to the title. He had served in the army in South Africa, 1901-1902. He was created G.C.V.O. in 1904 and K.G. in 1905. In 1911, he carried the Sceptre with the Dove at the Coronation of King George V. He was Lord-Lieutenant of the counties of Moray and Banff, and Chancellor of Aberdeen University. Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 7th Duke of Richmond and Lennox, 2nd Duke of Gordon, died on 18 January 1928.
