Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The venue, opened in 1915, was originally used for Leicester's army recruits during World War one. However, after the war it became a place for sport and entertainment and hosted many sporting competitions and events. The building was later demolished in 2001 when it became derelict and the council deemed it too expensive to maintain. Papers found on site were donated through the International Centre for Sports History and Culture at De Montfort University.
