Sports in Leicester (Papers of Chris Pyatt)

This material is held atDe Montfort University Archives and Special Collections

Scope and Content

The majority of the collection relates to the sports management of Granby Halls with specific reference to Chris Pyatt, who is a former professional boxer in the middleweight division. The papers include correspondence between Pyatt's manager, Frank Warren and Granby Halls director, Stephen Humphries and other ephemera such as posters, event management memos and seating plans. Additionally this collection also contains papers from other sports clubs and venues from around Leicester such as Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium.

Administrative / Biographical History

The venue, opened in 1915, was originally used for Leicester's army recruits during World War one. However, after the war it became a place for sport and entertainment and hosted many sporting competitions and events. The building was later demolished in 2001 when it became derelict and the council deemed it too expensive to maintain. Papers found on site were donated through the International Centre for Sports History and Culture at De Montfort University.
