It was decided to establish the Society of the Anglesey Chair Eisteddfod following the success of the 1906 Eisteddfod in Llanrhuddlad. The aim was to organize an eisteddfod that would bring all the communities of the island together, moving to different towns or villages every year, and would it be 'thoroughly Welsh' in terms of character. The society's first eisteddfod was held in Holyhead in 1907, beginning with a more or less continuous tradition over the years. The First World War stopped the festival that was due to be held in Rhosneigr in 1915. The regeneration festival was in Llannerch-y-medd in 1920 where the Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Môn was first established. The eisteddfod continued through World War II but the Association decided to organize six one day Eisteddfodau at Llangefni Town Hall between 1940 and 1945 and all those involved agreed to offer their service free of charge to reduce the burden financially. The Eisteddfod celebrated its jubilee in 1957 and W. H. Rogers, deputy headmaster of the County School, Holyhead, published a booklet called the History and Monastery of the Monmouthshire Induction History. The pattern of the Eisteddfod is now resembling the order of the National Eisteddfod with the Gorsedd of the Bards, chairs and crowning ceremonies, a drama festival and instrumental festival and an art and craft exhibition attached to it.
