From the depths of my memory, reminiscences of service in Malaya, Brunei, Singapore, Sarawak, Barbados and Malaysia, 1912-1976 (photocopied typescript), with texts of speeches made in Barbados.

Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Noel Turner CMG (1912-1987) served as a cadet in the Malayan Civil Service from 1935, rising to the rank of Administrative Officer Class V in 1938. He was seconded to Brunei as Assistant Resident in 1940. From 1941-1945, during the Second World War, he was interned by the Japanese. He was seconded to Sarawak in 1946 as Assistant Secretary, then took the post of Administrative Officer Class III in Malaya 1947. In 1948 he became 1st Assistant, Malayan Establishment Office, then Colonial Secretary, Barbados in 1950. He served as Chief Secretary, North Borneo, 1956-1963 and State Secretary, Sabah, 1963-1964. He was made Chief Secretary, North Borneo in 1956 and retired in 1964.
