Comprises: (1) Photocopy of Stirling's manuscript journal held by the Royal Geographical Society; (2) Typescript draft of The journals of Edward Hamilton Stirling in Persia and Afghanistan, 1828-1829 by Jonathan Lee (Naples, 1991), with manuscript alterations; (3) Drafts, proofs and offprints of articles by Lee relating to Afghanistan.

Administrative / Biographical History

Edward Hamilton Stirling was an East India Company civil servant. In 1828 he was granted leave of absence from his post in Bengal and travelled through Persia to Tehran, returning to India via Afghanistan.
