Scope and Content

The UEA Collection consists of over 34 series of papers and audio-visual materials deposited by staff, alumni, and other persons associated with the University (see Arrangement). New accessions are ongoing.

The series relate in part to the origins and early development of the University. The rest are more contemporary.

See also series SZ/UEA in the Zuckerman Archive, the Frank Thistlethwaite Archive (1st Vice-Chancellor), and Stefan Muthesius' papers (architecture).

Series UEA/BUT, UEA/EDE, UEA/GRAY, UEA/SCH and UEA/SMI consist of the memorabilia of former students.

In addition to these series, the UEA Collection holds:

Agenda and minutes of Senate and Council, 1963 to 2006 (excluding confidential items).

A run of the University Newsletter (now entitled Broadview), 1971- .

There is also a small collection of books and pamphlets.

Administrative / Biographical History

The University of East Anglia was established in 1963 in Norwich. It is well known architecturally for its buildings designed by Denys Lasdun.

A core collection of documents for public reference has been established in the Archives under the title The UEA Collection. These documents represent a selective documentary record of the history of the University.
