Scope and Content

This estate, located in Binfield Heath, in the parish of Shiplake, was described in a valuation report of 1864, as consisting of 55 acres, a mansion house, cottages and gardens. During the period covered by the documents in this collection, owners of all or part of the estate included Thomas Stonor, the Deane family, Mark Kerr, John Hanscomb, Robert Bicknell, Charles Stonor and Edward Swinburne. At the time that Swinburne sold the property in 1879, six separate parts of the premises had been brought together.

The collection comprises mainly title deeds for the various portions of the estate, as well as miscellaneous documents for properties in Shiplake with no apparent connection to Holmwood. The records were deposited in December 2021 (as accession 6926) by later owners of the estate.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey & Hilary Morse, 2023.
