Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1966 the Gallery offered its first audio guide to part of its Permanent Collection. The sound guide to the Tudor Gallery was intended as a trial project, with the potential for further expansion, however the initiative was abandoned in 1970. In 1997 the Gallery launched a sound guide for the wider Collection, featuring over 200 recordings related to portraits. Material included historic audio recordings from the National Sound Archive as well as original texts regarding specific works and rooms of the Gallery.
