Scope and Content

Gilbert de Ellesfeld [Elsfield], knight, confirms his gift of two cottages and six acres in Elsfield, Oxfordshire, to Thomas ?Hathfeld of ?Curencester [Cirencester?], smith, Avice his wife, and to their heirs, reserving an annual rent of 4s. Properties to revert to Gilbert in default of legitimate heirs. Indenture, witnessed by William de Audelee, John Hardy, Richard de Rusholme, Nicholas Wyke, William Wyke, and others. Seal and tag wanting. Endorsed in a sixteenth-century hand: 'A layce made be Gylberte / Hore of a cottedge in Elsfeld'. Further endorsed in pencil: '9', but the number '8' has been pencilled at top-right.
