Captain John Jones (d. [1860]) of Porthmadog, Caernarfonshire, was the captain of the schooner William Alexander during the 1850s. He was married to Margaret Jones. Their son, John Jones (b. [1844]), was a pupil at Farn Hill School, near Chester, Cheshire, 1856-1859, but also accompanied his father for lengthy periods on the William Alexander, 1858-1860. Mrs Mary Evans (d. [1866]) lived at the Ship Inn, Porthmadog.
