Scope and Content

Agreement between the inhabitants of North Leigh, Oxfordshire, and William Pope esq of Wroxton, Oxfordshire, lord of the manor of North Leigh, in the person of his tenant at 'Holie Coorte' farm, George Borrington of Minster [Lovell?], Oxfordshire, gent, that Borrington will only graze his cattle in certain specified fields in North Leigh, and that the parties will exchange lands currently within and outside enclosures made by Pope so as to rationalise holdings in the manor. The details of the transaction appear on an annexed terrier. Deed poll with schedule on attached membrane, unsigned, two seals. Endorsed in a seventeenth-century hand: 'This ys void', and by William Steane: 'This last day of May 1627 taken / with me to London to be deliuered to / Mr Justin the Counterpaine of / George Berrington his Lease / of Holy Court Farme'.
