Administrative / Biographical History
The Edinburgh, Perth & Dundee Railway , Scotland, was formed in 1847 by the Edinburgh & Northern Railway when it purchased and amalgamated the Edinburgh, Leith & Granton Railway and the Granton-Burntisland ferries. The Dundee & Arbroath Railway , Scotland, was opened in stages between 1848 and 1857 from Arbroath, Angus, through to Dundee. In 1854 it was agreed that the two companies would occupy a joint station at Dundee.
