Scope and Content

Cuttings from various publications on the 1892 disturbances, some in French and German with typescript translations. There is a note at the front by H.B. Thomas, October 1968: 'Formerly in Secretariat Library, Entebbe, Uganda, used by Margery Pelham when writing "Lugard, the years of adventure"'.

Administrative / Biographical History

Lord Lugard was sent to Uganda in 1890 by the British East Africa Company. In 1892 fighting broke out between the Anglican and French Catholic factions in the country, and Lugard's headquarters at Kambala was attacked by the Catholics. The disturbances were suppressed following fighting at Buddu and the Sese Islands, after which a treaty was signed between the Company and the insurgents.
