This collection contains:
David Armitage Bannerman was born in 1886. He studied at Wellington College and Pembroke College, Cambridge where he graduated in 1909. Bannerman went on to travel extensively, and notably collected bird specimens in the Canary Islands and Tunisia. He was made an Honorary Associate at the Natural History Museum, London having worked there for over 40 years.
Bannerman was involved with a number of ornithological societies and also received many awards and medals. He was chairman of the British Ornithologists’ Club and Honorary President of the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club.
Amongst his published works are The birds of Tropical West Africa (1930-51), The birds of the British Isles (1953-63) and The birds of the Atlantic Islands (1963-68).
David Armitage Bannerman died in 1979.
