Scope and Content

A collection of books consisting of musical notation, described as Llyfrau Pricio. A few are in the hand of Ellis Ylltyr Williams, whilst some are identified as the work of others, including William Jones of Dyffryn Mymbyr, David Owen of Trefriw, William Evans of Glanyrafon, Hugh Ellis of Llanfachreth, Evan Rees of Llanidloes, Richard Morris of Tregarth. The manuscripts consist of songs, psalms and anthems on religious, nationalistic and moral themes.

Administrative / Biographical History

Ellis Yllltyr Williams of Dolgellau, Merionethshire, composer, was also known as Ylltyr Eryri. He was born on 21 January 1835 and died in 1911. During his lifetime, many of his compositions (songs, anthems, carols) were published e.g. Odlau Ylltyr : sef odlau gwladgarol, serchiadol, dirwestol, moesol a chrefyddol. Y llyfr cyntaf. No further biographical information was available at time of compilation of description.

No apparent system of arrangement, but items have been incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts
