Evan Hughes was born at Isallt, Chapel Street, Conway in 1879. He later lived at Bryn Morfa, Bangor Road, Conway. He died in 1931. This account was probably written in 1929 as on page 3 he mentions "where they are building a drill hall" in Berry Street. The 1929 Conway Street and Road Directory says the new drill hall in Berry Street is "in course of erection". The diary contains many descriptions of local places and people.
