Administrative / Biographical History

The academic registrar was responsible for academic development planning, staff establishment and all student administration including admissions, registration, examinations, student records and statistics.

The post was discontinued in 1973 due to the growth of the University and the appointment of the then post holder to the post of registrar. The duties of the academic registrar became the responsibility of the registrar.

The Registrar was appointed by the Court. He was responsible, under the direction of the Principal, for the administration of the University. He was also responsible for providing secretarial services for the Convocation, the Court, the Senate and the Academic Congress. In 1973, the registrar assumed responsibility for academic development planning, staff establishment and all student administration including admissions, registration, examinations, records and statistics, all of which had formerly been the responsibility of the academic registrar.
In 1990, following the retirement of the Registrar, the University's administrative structure was reviewed and the office of Registrar was replaced by the office of Secretary.

The Registry was responsible for student administration including admissions, registration, student records, examinations, graduations and room booking. The Registry was the responsibility of the Secretary.
