Scope and Content

An undated transcript of letters from Copeland to his mother describing his service in India, 1917-1918, illustrated with 101 photographs and 12 postcards of India and Burma, including architectural features, costumes and different racial groups. The majority of the images are either captioned or referred to in the narrative. Most of the photographs are circa 55 x 55 mm in size. The majority were taken by Copeland, but some are noted as the work of his fellow soldiers, and it is possible that a few of the larger ones are professional photographs.

Administrative / Biographical History

Private A.E. Copeland served in the Signal Section of D Company, 1st/5th Hampshire Regiment.
