Chris Evans

Christopher Evans was a Communist Party candidate in the Glamorgan County Council Election Dulais Valley Division 1961 and the Neath Rural District Council Elections of 1964, 1967 and 1970. He also stood in the Seven Sisters Ward, Parish Council Election 1961.

Chris Evans was born c1912. He was a miner employed at the Seven Sisters Colliery and an active Trade Unionist for much of his life. He was Compensation Secretary at the Seven Sisters Lodge National Union of Mineworkers from c1948 and was the Official Miners' representative on Appeal Tribunals. Chris Evans was Trustee of the local Miners Welfare Society; Chairman of the Seven Sisters Colliery Social Committee; Chairman of the National Coal Board Housing Committee and Treasurer of the 'Rowen' Factory for Peace. He also was Miners' Secretary to the Dulais Valley Liscensed Mines and Unemployed and disabled miners of the Upper Swansea and Dulais Valley in 1978.

As well as his trade union and political activities, Chris Evans had a keen interest in local history and lectured on the subject as well as wrote several books on topics such as the history of Seven Sisters. He also lectured on Industrial Law, Health and Safety in Industry and on Economics.
