Vol.1 contains drawings of the church, coats of arms of benefactors etc., monuments and misereres, notes on the organ, the bells, history of the church, description of the various parts of the building, list of monuments, list of rents, account of deans, sub-deans and prebendaries, extracts from Camden, Leland, Domesday Book, from "Valor ecclesiasticus, 1535", etc., account of the "Perambulation" given him by Mr Tuting of Ripon. Vol.2 contains notes on the seven prebends, and on the medieval chantries, scheme of the "College" (from Peck's "Desiderata curiosa"), copies of early charters and statutes (from Dugdale's "Monasticon"), extracts from Petrus Ripponensis (Peter of Blois), and from Leland's "Collectanea", and plans of Ripon Minster.

- 2 vols Written in the hand of William Stubbs. Some printed views are inserted. Both volumes have quarter-leather spine bindings, with marbled boards, and gilt embossed labels containing the words "Ripon Minster". In Vol.1 on the pastedown there is an armorial bookplate, and on the flyleaf the inscription "Willielmus Stubbs Ex Aede Christi, Oxonii, Haec scripsit. Iohannes Whitton Darnbrough E. Coll. Linc. Oxonii. Majorem partem tabularum delineavit. 1842. 1844". Vol.2 has printed headings to ff.1-28.

William Stubbs (1825-1901), the historian, bishop of Chester and afterwards of Oxford, was born at Knaresborough, and educated at Ripon Grammar School, and at Christ Church, Oxford. His chief work, The constitutional history of England, in 3 volumes, was issued in 1874-78, and at once became the standard authority on the subject. The notes on the history of Ripon Minster were compiled while he was a student at Christ Church.
