Scope and Content

Thomas Rocheforde, William Gardyner and Henry Lonmour [Lomnour?], acting as executors of the will of John Hesewell of Cambridge, deceased, confirm their lease [in effect a gift] to Thomas Jakenet, citizen and grocer of London, son of Thomas Jakenet, also citizen and grocer, of a tenement with two solars in the parish of St Mary the Virgin, next the market in Cambridge, lying between tenements of Corpus Christi College to the north and the market cross to the south [sic], abutting in the east on the market entrance and on the churchyard of the said church, and in the west on a tenement of the Hospital of St John Evangelist. Reversion in default of legitimate heir to the heirs of Jakenet senior. William Abyngton of Cambridge is appointed to deliver seisin. At Cambridge, Deed poll, signed by Rocheford and Lonmour, witnessed by Henry ?Rowce, notary. Three tagged pendant red round seals. Endorsed with certificate of livery of seisin by John Thirleby of Cambridge, which names William Hasyll as Jakenet's attorney. Further endorsed: 'Cambridge No 15', '16 H 8', and 'Nil'.

Purchased at Sotheby's, Lot 19 (Phillipps MS 32068), 13 April 1981. Appears to have once belonged to J. Blomefield, author of The History of Norfolk.
