Administrative / Biographical History

In 1844  , Hugh Moncrieff and Andrew Paterson were working as writers at an office located at 45 West George Street, Glasgow, Scotland. By 1864  they had been joined by Daniel Forbes and David Barr to form the firm of Moncrieff, Paterson, Forbes & Barr also located at 45 West George Street. Some time between 1892 and 1929  , the firm became Moncrieff, Warren, Paterson & Co , D Bruce Warren being the new partner. This firm of solicitors continued to operate from the same premises until about 1970  when they moved to 1 Blythswood Square, Glasgow. Amongst their clients were William Dixon; and William S Dixon and the firm William Dixon & Sons , coal and iron masters, Glasgow; William Denny & Bros Ltd , shipbuilders, Dumbarton, Scotland; and Scott & Co , shipbuilders, Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, Scotland. Scott & Co became Scott and Sons (Bowling) Ltd in 1958. In 1965, the company was taken over, at their invitation, by Scotts' Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd, Greenock.
