Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1948, with the advent of the National Health Service, the Nottinghamshire hospitals were grouped together under the newly created Sheffield Regional Health Board. Certain hospitals within Nottingham came under the auspices of the Nottingham No. 1 Hospital Management Committee. In 1970, this became the Nottingham University Hospital Management Committee and, in 1974, the Nottinghamshire Area Health Authority (Teaching) South Nottingham District. In 1982 the Nottingham Health Authority was formed.

Custodial History
In 1975, Nottingham University Library's Manuscripts Department gave advice on the preservation of the early records of Nottingham General Hospital. From these informal beginnings, the Department became involved with the records management of all the hospitals within the group. This relationship was formalised, and the first records transferred, in 1979 when the Lord Chancellor made the department the place of deposit for local hospital records, under the provisions of the Public Records Act 1958 s.4.
