YMCA Unofficial Papers: Papers of James C. B. Thomson

Material comprises reports, photographs and correspondence relating to Thomson's involvement in the relief work of the World Alliance Refugee Rehabilitation Service with the YMCA team in the Saigon area at the end of the Vietnam War in April and May 1975. Several of the photographs relate to work at Vung Tao, a port on the eastern seaboard of Vietnam.

These papers also include a report by Thomson on his work as World Alliance Field Secretary for refugee services in Africa, 1968 published in 'Work with Refugees' and a report in the form of a letter to members of the Standing Committee on Refugees and Rehabilitation on a visit to Thailand/Kampuchean border, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Japan, 1979

In addition there is a typescript history entitled 'The work of YMCA National Movements and the World Alliance of YMCAs with refugees and rehabilitation 1945-1995', 2011; and a lecture delivered in November 2016 concerning the work undertaken by The World Alliance of YMCAs from the early 20th century onwards.

James C. B. Thomson was Secretary of the World Alliance of YMCAs Committee for Refugees and Rehabilitation in 1975. He spent a month in Saigon, from 25 April until 26 May 1975, when he was involved in the relief work of the YMCA team at the end of the war in Vietnam. In the 1960s he was World Alliance Field Secretary for refugee services in Africa.
