Administrative / Biographical History

The United Operative Plumbers' Association of Great Britain and Ireland was formed in 1865. In 1911 the title was changed to the United Operative Plumbers' and Domestic Engineers' Association of Great Britain and Ireland. It became the Plumber, Glaziers and Domestic Engineers Union in 1931 and the Plumbing Trades union in 1946. In 1968 it merged with the Electrical Trades Union to form the Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication and Plumbing Union.
