Administrative / Biographical History

The Newport and Monmouthshire Blind Workshops Committee was constituted in 1949 to take over the functions of the former Newport and Monmouthshire Association of the Blind. This body had itself been created in 1938 as a new Joint Association to take over the work of the former Monmouth County Association for the Blind (1930-1938) and also the assets of the Newport and Monmouthshire Blind Aid Society (established c. 1865), which included workshops and offices at Chepstow Road, Newport, and shop premises at Charles Street, Newport. The workshops were closed in April 1973.
