Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
From the late 19th century responsibility for water provision in Caernarfonshire lay with borough and rural district councils or sanitary authorities. Following the Water Act 1945, water companies and boards began to amalgamate. The North West Wales River Board was formed as a result. The River Board became the Gwynedd River Board in 1953. The Board was renamed the Gwynedd River Authority in 1966 until 1973 when the Welsh Water Authority was created. Glaslyn Rural District Council was responsible for supplying water to the village of Prenteg, Caernarfonshire in the early 20th century.
