Scope and Content

The scrapbook that comprises this collection bears the identification 'Newspaper Cuttings' in gilt on its front cover. The most frequent subjects are recipes for cookery and remedies, such as a recipe for 'Calf's Foot Blancmange'. Other household hints include 'Directions for restoring the apparently drowned', 'How to get to sleep', and 'Care of room plants'. The scrapbook also contains reports of marriages and deaths. The last cutting to be pasted into the scrapbook is an article about the High Pavement Chapel, Nottingham. There are references to Nottinghamshire people in other cuttings.

Journals from which cuttings have been taken include 'The Bolton Evening News', 'The Morning Post', 'The Northampton Daily News', 'The Bolton Advertiser', 'The Kettering Leader', 'The Times', and 'The Guernsey Weekly Press'. Dated items refer to the period 1890-1915. Not all sources can be identified.

Administrative / Biographical History

No details appear to be present which identify with certainty the compiler of this collection, who appears to have a connection with Nottingham and the surrounding area. Further investigation of the articles which have been collected about individuals within local communities might provide useful evidence.
