Administrative / Biographical History
Braichgoch Slate Quarry, an underground quarry, was the largest and oldest quarry in Corris, Merionethshire. It had been mined since 1787. The Braich Goch Slate Quarry Company was formed in 1864. In 1878, the quarry employed 250 men and produced 7,000 tons of slab and roofing slate. In 1906, the company collapsed. The site was purchased by Dewi and Gwilym Lloyd of Aberllefenni in 1962, and operated until 1970.
