Administrative / Biographical History
Ransom Pickard (1867-1953), physician and surgeon, Mayor of Exeter, served in the 1st World War in which he was mentioned in desptaches five times. He was Sheriff of Exeter in 1906-7, and Mayor 1926-27. He was sometime President of the Devonshire Association, and on his death he bequeathed many volumes to the University, having previously been a great benefactor. He died 9 February 1953.
