John Ingman Papers

The collection consists of research material, lecture notes and article drafts by John Ingman on a wide variety of subjects relating to the history of Bangor including transport, manufacturing and trade, hospitals, engineering works, parish matters and religious and social life, mainly covering the period from the late eighteenth to the twentieth century. Also includes notes on Flintshire history with particular reference to the parishes of Treuddyn and Mold.

John Ingman, (d. 1950), local historian, was a native of Treuddyn, Flintshire who settled in Bangor, Gwynedd (formerly Caernarfonshire). When he retired from his work as a travelling salesman, he became involved in studying the local history of Bangor and its surrounding area. Some of the results of his research were published in the Transactions of the Caernarvonshire Historical Society for the years 1947, 1949, 1950 and 1952.

There is no apparent system of arrangement. Material was received at different times and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
