Scope and Content

Album of ca. 200 leaves, numbered as far as 170. Specimens are tipped onto the album leaves, starting with fol. 23 and ending with 155. The title page is inscribed in the hand of Bagford: 'A collection of specementes of thi variate of seviral sortes of paper: as from China Est India Persia Turkia Italia ffrance: Germany fflanders Holland and England bouth Antient and Moddern: about a hundred sevirall sortes'. Fol. 1r contains an incomplete alphabetical index also in Bagford's hand to various features of the paper.

Acquisition Information

Bagford deposited the volume in the library of Thomas Tenison. It was sold from the Tenison Library in 1861; acquired by Allen T. Hazen from the dealer N. M. Broadbent in 1940; and given to the Library by Edith P. Hazen in 1979.
