Scope and Content

The report, sent from Vienna, 4 July 1689, contains a detailed analysis of Louis XIV's relations with his family, mistresses and favourites; the excommunication of his ambassador to the Pope; religious persecutions; and the policies of other European states towards France. It was probably written as a brief for Venier's successor. The titleslip on the front cover reads 'Relatione fatta dall' Ambasciator Veneto alla Sereniss[i]ma Sua Repubblica in occasione dell' Ambascieria esercitata da Lui nella Corte della Maest Christianissima Luigi Decimo quarto'. 88pp.
