Personal papers compiled by the athlete and athletics administrator, Peter Powell. The collection includes a significant number of programmes, mostly for various track and field events with coverage spanning a century between 1880s to 1980s. There are a number of papers relating to the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA), the Northern Counties Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Chesterfield Schools' Sports Association (CSSA); scrapbooks which include a number of photographs, cuttings and ephemera relating to the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games; and personalia including medals and plaques awarded to Powell over the course of his athletics career.

Administrative / Biographical History
Edgar Robert Leslie (Peter) Powell (fl 1920s-1970s) was a sprinter in his youth. In 1928 he founded the Chesterfield Schools' Sports Association and was the organisation's secretary for over 30 years. He held a number of posts in athletics administration including treasurer of the Northern Counties Athletic Association (NCAA) for over 30 years; secretary of the Chesterfield District Committee of the NCAA; president of the former Chesterfield Athletic Club; member of the general committee and later life vice-president of the AAA; and he was elected president of the NCAA when aged 74. He was an official at the 1948 London Olympic Games and was sometime team manager for the AAA and British Amateur Athletic Board (BAAB) taking athletes to Japan, South America and Eastern Europe to complete. In 1965 he led a six-strong British team to success at two international meetings in Madrid and Barcelona.
Powell was a teacher by profession, working in Chesterfield for over 40 years and held the position of Headteacher at both Gilbert Heathcote and Dunston schools.
