Administrative / Biographical History
In the 1945 General Election the Labour Party won with 11,967,746 votes (48.0 per cent). The Conservative Party gained 9,101,099 votes (36.2 per cent), the Liberal Party 2,252,430 votes (9.0 per cent), the National Liberals 737,732 votes (2.9 per cent), the Irish Nationalists 148,078 votes (0.4 per cent), the National Party 133,179 votes (0.2 per cent), the Communist Party 102,780 votes (0.4 per cent) and the Independent Labour Party 46,769 votes (0.2 per cent).
