Administrative / Biographical History
Stephen W. Coffin, born in 1890, studied at Guy's Hospital from October 1909. He joined the Artists' Rifles as a Territorial in 1910 and was commissioned as a Temporary Lieutenant, later Captain, in the RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps) on qualifying as a doctor at the beginning of 1915. He served at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley until 1916, then in India from 1916 to 1919, stationed at Peshawar, Nowshera, Bangalore and Malappuram.
