Administrative / Biographical History

Originally from Allgäu, Germany, Hendrik Jonas studied graphic design and illustration in Augsburg, Germany, and Barcelona, Spain. After completing his degree in 1995 he moved to Berlin, where he worked as a freelance painter and printmaker. From 1995 to 1997 he illustrated the Atlas of Human Anatomy. He worked as an illustrator for the German newspapers, Berliner Zeitung, Zitty magazine and others, from 1997-1999.

He migrated to Scotland in 1999, where he worked for the British mainstream newspapers as a freelance including the Guardian, the Times Magazine, the Irish Times and the Scotsman. During this time he also exhibited his free work at many solo and group shows.

After returning to Berlin he published his first children’s book and contributed to children’s magazines.
