Scope and Content

The first two volumes provide full transcriptions of a large proportion of the material now held by Manuscripts and Special Collections as the papers of Hans Willem Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland (Pw A). There is a general introduction in Dutch and English. The papers themselves are in a variety of languages, predominantly Dutch, French, English, German and Latin. The remaining three volumes provide full transcriptions of relevant material found in other archive repositories.

Administrative / Biographical History

In the 1920s the Dutch scholar N. Japikse transcribed and published the papers of Hans Willem Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland, which were at that time held at Welbeck Abbey.
