Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Eric Guy was a commercial and press photographer with businesses at Basingstoke and then Reading. He had a strong interest in agriculture and many of his photographs found their way into publications such as Farmers Weekly. He worked mainly in central southern England from the 1920s (when he was in partnership with Phillip Osborne Collier) until the mid 1950s.
Arrangement
Negatives have been arranged, wherever possible, according to Eric Guy's original numbering sequence, slightly simplified. Numbers in the range PDX289 PH1/1100-1199 were not used originally, and have now been assigned to unmarked items. Prints have been matched with negatives wherever possible (PDX289 PH2/1), otherwise they are filed under subject headings based on those used by the photographer (P DX289 PH2/2-18).
