The Adams family lived at Holyland in the parish of St Michael, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, from the 16th century until the 1940s. William Adams (1695-1745) took Phillippa Phillips (d 1765) as his second wife. They had eleven children, including William (1717-1770) who inherited the estate. He married Anne Rickson of Pembroke. William Adam's son was John Phillips Adams (fl. 1741-1833). John's nephew was Alexander Adams (fl. 1811-1834), a lieutenant general in the army. John Phillips Adam's son was John Adams (1769-1798) who married Sophia Holcombe in 1795 and had a son, also John (1796-1873), who lived at Lydstep House, Manorbier, Pembrokeshire. John Adams married Anne Gibbons of Oswestry, Shropshire, in 1828. Their first child, John Alexander Phillips (1831-1901) served as an officer in the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Their other children were Henry Joseph (b.1835), Augusta May, Frances Louisa and Agnes Anne. John Alexander Phillips Adam's sons were John Loftus Adams (1870-1943) and Bertram Edward Adams (fl. 1893). The last male of the family, John Stephen Adams (1912-1942), was killed in action in the Second World War. Maurice Wyn Owen was a solicitor who worked in Oswestry, Shropshire, and in Pembroke. He was made a trustee of John Adam's and Anne Gibbon's marriage settlement in 1840.
