Scope and Content

The group includes 'In Loving Memory of Ticker 1948 - 1970', a manuscript compiled by Alexander Warren Dury Mitton Esquire as a tribute to his cat; a manuscript volume of the liturgy of the Greek church, presented by Mr. Eliezer Edwards, Wrexham; a typescript of an essay, 'Conisborough Castle: A Great Fortress and Its Story', by Herbert Roberts, 1931; a scrap book compiled by A E Richards, Amroth, containing engravings of coins of the Greek and Roman Empires, together with manuscript descriptions and notes; a manuscript of an essay, 'Peter Williams, Ei fywyd, a'i lafar llenyddol', by D.R. Williams; a music manuscript which includes a version of The Prodigal Son by Joseph Parry; an anonymous typescript diary of a trip to Auvergne and Central France in 1925, along with inserted postcards; a small manuscript volume containing a treatise on Islamic prayers and invocations in Turkish and a treatise on Arabic conjugations in Arabic; an album of photographs of Wales and Switzerland, inscribed by D. Morgan Lewis, 1925; a large volume of photographs, entitled 'Portraits of Subscribers to Address&Oil Painting. Presented to Arthur Charles Humphreys Owen Esq. M.P. September 20th 1895'; a notebook inscribed 'Robert Hatton, Liverpool, 1850', containing notes on foreign vocabulary, poetry and historical events; a volume of newspaper cuttings on anthropology and Wales, 1895-1910; two large volumes of printed and manuscript music from the nineteenth century; a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings and daily quotes from 1937; a volume containing manuscript entries by D.P. Sayer, Arthur H. Ridding and J. Brigham; an address book once belonging to Miss Simner, 1926, which includes addresses of famous Welshmen of the time; four large manuscript volumes of legal common forms from the nineteenth century; remnants of two parchment manuscripts, one dated 1699 and related to the Pilsbury family and their lands in Stafford; a Welsh sermon, 'Galarnad Jeremiah'; a sheet of paper bearing the signatures of various Welsh academics; a single sheet of manuscript music entitled 'Haf', by Robert Bryan; the lyrics and sol-ffa notation of Libretto Salm yr Iachawdwriaeth with an accompanying letter from Peter Williams, Ruabon; a manuscript copy of 'A Dialogue between Man and Death', along with two copy letters in the same hand, one to the Rev. Sir Roderick Ousely from John Hullah, 1865; a supplement to the Western Mail of April 7th 1884 containing a portrait of Mr James James, composer of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, with music on the reverse; a sheet of printed text in Latin, with English translation and notes, of a letter of William Tyndale, printed in London, 1872; a selection of manuscript Welsh poetry in various hands; a reproduction of a printed statement in Welsh by Charles Howard, made during the reign of Elizabeth I; four printed cards illustrating the work of the Palestine Exploration Fund; a printed notice of publication for 1897 of The Infant's Magazine and Merry Playmates: Pictures and Stories for Little Folks; copies of The Chester Chronicle; Cheshire and North Wales Advertiser and The North Wales Gazette dated 19 September 1828; a printed leaflet of new works published in 1828 and sold by Whittaker, Treacher and Arnot, London, with handwritten notes on the first page; a copy of the North Wales Gazette, dated Thursday 14 July 1808, with MS notes on the front page; a printed notice of the matrimonial bidding of John Evans and Ann Davies of Carmarthen, dated September 1862; a Philological Society booklet, Neo-Latin Names for Artichoke, inscribed to A J Ellis by HIH Prince L-L Bonaparte, 1885; a printed sheet of handwritten notes and illustrations relating to the shield placed over the remains of Thomas Mowbray in St. Marks Church 1399; a number of pamphlets relating to the establishment of the National Library of Wales, including copies of the Library Charter, 1907-08; a note entitled 'Advantages and Disadvantages of Class and Individual Teaching' by F.K. Morris, Alexandra Hall, Aberystwyth; printed announcements of the publication of three works in the Welsh language by Dolgellau printers Richard Jones; newspaper cuttings on Aberystwyth libraries, 1936; four pencil drawings of the Aberystwyth area by Miss Jennie Harries-Thomas of Penbont Farm, Llanbadarn Fawr, with associated correspondence; a selection of prints and photographs of famous individuals, including Moses Mendelssohn, CH Spurgeon and William Tyndale, 1876; a photograph of a statue of Daniel Rowland, Llangeitho, which won the Cardiff Eisteddfod prize for photography from sculpture, 1883; a bound volume containing manuscript notes, probably written by Cyril Brett, Professor of English at the University of Wales, Cardiff, and mainly concerned with early editions and the textual transmission of Shakespeare's works, along with three printed pamphlets and offprints on Shakespeare; a small manuscript volume of notes taken from Dr George Fordyce's lecture on the Materia Medica; two large manuscript volumes in Greek entitled 'Carmina Homerica Minora' and 'Hesidodi Opera', presented by Miss Helen Owen, Weston-Super-Mare, in 1902; a notebook containing manuscript poems about Wales by Mabel Aylena Francis, 1970s; notes of a sermon delivered in 1886 by Henry Ward Beecher, along with three letters from Dr James Martineau, donated by Revd John W Brown; a copy of Revd Francis T Havergal's Memorials of Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley, belonging originally to TL Southgate, with letters from Ouseley inserted; manuscript notes on the geology of North Wales by L Ruck; two exercise books containing a list of books from the library of the late Revd John Davies, the congregational minister of Glandwr, Pembrokeshire, and references to the Welsh Library Committee; a scrap book of cuttings on Russia, 1917-18; an album of dried flowers with name labels attached; a nineteenth century catalogue from Olympia, Kensington; an anonymous twentieth century manuscript entitled 'The Salvation of Youth'; the annual report and accounts of the North Western and North Wales Sea Fisheries Committee, 1988; E Penllyn Jones' BD certificate from the University of Glasgow, 1879; a report by the Committee for the Preservation of the Old Parliament House, Dolgellau, 1875; a bank note from the American state of Georgia, 1776; the poems of Richard Ellis transcribed by T G Lloyd, 1969; the autograph of Alexandra, Princess of Wales, and a programme from the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, 1902.
