Administrative / Biographical History
J. J. Cordes & Co. Ltd was a firm of nail manufacturers based in Newport, Monmouthshire, founded by James Jamieson Cordes (b. [1798]). Cordes was of French and American descent, becoming a naturalized British citizen in 1853. He opened the Dos Works in Newport in about 1835, so named because it was the second works he established.
