Scope and Content

The collection comprises:

  • Rule book, 1888 (MS 121/1).
  • Plans of Hobson Road, c.1888-c.1889 (MS 121/2).

This small collection provides a very incomplete record of the society but it may be relevant for those researching the history of Belgrave in particular or suburban development in general.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Belgrave Industrial Provident Land Society was a limited company registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1876 on 7 August 1888. Its registered office was at the National School, Belgrave, Leicester according to the rules of the company. The company appears to have been established to finance and plan property development in Leicester's suburb of Belgrave. The plans in this collection relate to the laying out of Hobson Road in Belgrave.

Arrangement

The collection has been divided by document type into two series. Since this collection is very small and accurate dating is not possible, items are arranged in a simple numerical sequence.
