Scope and Content

Nevinson took up the position of Rector of Lyndon in Rutland (1889-1909), before becoming Rector of Medbourne-with-Holt in Leicstershire (1909-1929).

Notebook contains stories of Stamford and vicinity at one end, and Rutland and Leicestershire provincialisms at the other.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. Nevinson was born in Stamford and was the son of Rev. Charles Nevinson and his wife Emma. He was baptised at All Saints Church in Stamford on 11 February 1852 and grew up on Bread Street in the town. He went to Stamford Grammar School and then up to St Johns College Cambridge in April 1870. He was awarded a BA in 1874 and an MA in 1877. He was ordained as a priest in 1877. He was assistant school master at Yarlett Hall in Stafford (1877-1883) and then at the Grange School in Folkstone (1883-1885). He then took up the position of Rector of Lyndon in Rutland (1889-1909), before becoming Rector of Medbourne-with-Holt in Leicestershire (1909-1929).

Rev. Nevinson married Ethel Lowe in Stamford in 1891. They had three children: Humphrey Kaye Bonney (1891-1915), Dorothy (1893-1970) and Bridget (1896-1979). Their son Humphrey died at Gallipoli in the First World War. After retiring Rev. Nevison moved back to Cambridge and died in 1930 at his home.
