Accounts for coal pits at Farnley, 1690-1720, by Robert Arthington

Administrative / Biographical History

There are records of mining at Farnley, which is to the south-west of Leeds, dating from the middle of the 16th century. The Danbys were the Lords of the Manor of Farnley, and Robert Arthington probably acted as Steward of the estate and also rented Farnley Hall from the Danbys. After the death of Robert in 1715, his son John continued in the stewardship until his own death in 1720
