Scope and Content

A collection of 195 photographs taken by a number of photographers, some unknown. The collection contains images of rides, fairgrounds, traction engines and organs. There are seven boxes of detailed notebooks.

The digitisation and recording of the photographs was funded by the Pilgrim Trust.

Administrative / Biographical History

Stuart Johnstone was a key member of the FCSF, the Friendship Circle of Showland Fans. He edited the Merry-go-Round during its final years in the mid sixties. He was also the World's fair correspondent called Coltswold.

His notebooks are essentially digested versions of the World's Fair and include chronological guides to fairs, machines for sale, parks, engines, families and are extremely useful to researchers in this field.
