At the request of the mortgagors John and Ann Cawthorn, and in consideration of £100 (all due interest having been paid) John Curtis of Chatteris, cordwainer, assigns a mortgage of 10+ acres of fen adventure ground in Sutton fen (see Doc 1788) to David Bell of Chatteris, gent. In further consideration of £150, John Cawthorn confirms Bell's title in the land subject to the repayment of £250 plus annual interest at 5% on 22 Nov 1824. The fine specified in Doc 1788 has not yet been levied, and the clause is therefore repeated in the present indenture, with Bell's name substituted. Quadrupartite indenture, signed and sealed by Curtis and by John and Ann Cawthorn (the latter making her mark), witnessed by R W Allpress of Chatteris, attorney, and by ?J Saberton, receipts for consideration money on verso signed by Curtis and John Cawthorn, and witnessed by Allpress, duty stamps. Endorsed as entered in the Bedford Level Company Register on 8 Dec 1824.
