Scope and Content

This collection consists of copies of the printed annual reports of the Florence Nightingale Fund. The first report includes information about the agreement between the Fund and St Thomas' Hospital. The Nightingale Fund laid out strict duties of the probationer - they were required to be "sober, honest, truthful, trustworthy, punctual, quiet and orderly, cleanly and neat" and set out 13 separate nursing skills they had to achieve. The first 11 successful candidates are names on the report: Mary Baker; Jane Elizabeth Couchman; Annie Lees; Charlotte Nixon; Harriet Parker; Georgina H. Pike; Fanny Wilde; Emily Medhurst; Mary Ann Phillips; Caroline Stone and Emma Whitlock.
